An International Driving Permit (IDP) is an official document that translates your Indian driving licence into multiple international languages. It allows you to legally drive vehicles in most foreign countries that recognize the 1949 Geneva Convention. You’ll need an IDP if you plan to rent or drive a car abroad.
You can apply for an International Driving Permit at your local RTO in Bangalore or through the Parivahan portal. Submit your valid Indian driving licence, passport, visa, passport-size photos, and Form 4A.
The IDP is usually valid for 1 year from the date of issue. After expiry, you must apply again with updated travel and licence documents.
The processing time for an IDP in Bangalore is generally 3–5 working days once all documents are verified.
Yes, you must have a valid Indian driving licence to apply for an International Driving Permit. Temporary or learner’s licences are not accepted.
