A parent or legal guardian can apply for a minor’s PAN card by filling out Form 49A and submitting the required documents of both the minor and the guardian.
The following documents are required: minor’s birth certificate or school certificate as age proof, the parent’s or guardian’s PAN and identity proof, and a passport-size photograph of the minor.
A minor’s PAN card helps in making investments, opening a bank account in the child’s name, and filing tax returns if the child earns income under their name.
You can apply for a minor’s PAN card online through the NSDL or UTIITSL portals, or offline by submitting Form 49A at an authorized PAN center.
Once the application is submitted and verified, the PAN card is usually delivered within 10–15 working days by post.
When the minor turns 18, they must apply for an update or reissue of the PAN card to include their signature and photograph as an adult.
